I-League: Loads of Goals!

4 Rounds of the I-League season 2011/12 have been played and an incredible 92 goals have been scored in the 28 matches played so far. This is an average of 3,29 goals per game!

Former champions Dempo SC have been the most impressive so far. Four wins, 12 goals without conceding a goal and having scored 13 goals of their own. The Goans are leading the pack early on with Churchill Brothers SC (10 points), Mohun Bagan AC (9 pts), Sporting Clube de Goa (8 pts) and East Bengal Club (7 pts) in pursuit.

At the other end of the table the young Pailan Arrows, the AIFF Developmental side, are bottom with only a point to their name. The youngsters could have more points to their name, but the lack of experience has done them in, but last season they had shown after initial hiccups what they are capable of. Just above them are HAL (1 point), Mumbai FC, Chirag United Kerala and Salgaocar SC (all on 3 pts). The mid-table, if there is any, contains Prayag United and Air India (both 6 pts), Pune FC (5 pts) and Shillong Lajong FC (4 pts).

As has been the case very often over the last few years the foreigners in the I-League are at the top of the strikers charts. Newcomer from South Sudan James Moga (Sporting Clube de Goa) and last seasons top scorer Ranty Martins Soleye (Dempo SC) have scored six goals so far with Odafe Onyeka Okolie (Mohun Bagan AC) in the hunt with four goals to his name. The top Indians are Manandeep Singh (Air India) and Sampath Kumar Kuttymani (Mumbai FC) with three goals.
