Real Madrid after Manchester United talisman - The Daily Star

BEIRUT: With the transfer window approaching, clubs around Europe are on the move.

Tuesday's top news has Wayne Rooney linked with Real Madrid for a staggering figure of 70 million pounds ($109 million).

Barcelona's David Villa is being heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. The World Cup winner is rated at 40 million pounds ($62 million) and with ready-made replacements Pedro and Alexis Sanchez already at Barcelona, 40 million is thought to be an acceptable sum.

Liverpool also want to steal Royston Drenthe from Everton. The midfielder is on loan at Goodison Park from Real Madrid. Liverpool are also chasing Inter Milan's Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho. Coutinho could be a long term replacement for club captain Steven Gerrard.

Arsenal is once again thought to be after German Lukas Podolski for a figure of around 20 million pounds. It could be one striker in, one out for Arsenal as Robin Van Persie has been linked to Manchester City, who already have a plethora of attacking options in Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli & Sergio Aguero. Arsenal are also monitoring Udinese's Romanian Messi, Gabriel Torje.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas wants to bring Joao Moutinho to reunite with him at Stamford Bridge.
