Chelsea and Liverpool lock horns on Tuesday for the second time in ten days with a Carling Cup semi-final spot at stake.

Liverpool picked up an impressive 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge earlier this month and they will be looking to complete a quick-fire double in West London.

The game will also be the 30th time the two sides have met since 2004 after regularly drawing each other in other competitions.

Both managers are expected to make several changes to their side as they look to give some fringe players a chance to impress.

Chelsea chief Andre Villas-Boas could hand Fernando Torres a return to the starting line-up against his former club after being named on the bench for the last four games.

Blues skipper John Terry is missing through suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the weekend win over Wolves.

Former Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles is cup-tied for the game after playing for the Reds against Exeter earlier in this season's competition.

Romelu Lukaku, Josh McEachran and Salomon Kalou could be drafted into the first team, but Michael Essien remains a long-term absentee.

Liverpool news

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, who is unhappy with the timing of the game coming just 48 hours after their draw with Manchester City, will shuffle his pack as he looks to freshen up his side.

Craig Bellamy is likely to return having been omitted from the squad on Sunday on compassionate grounds after the death of close friend Gary Speed.

Jamie Carragher is expected make his first appearance in over a month, having spent the last two matches on the bench after injury.

Andy Carroll could also be handed the chance to impress from the start, while Maxi Rodriguez, who scored in the 2-1 win over Chelsea earlier this month could also return to the starting XI after being named on the bench against Manchester City.

Young pair Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing will also be hoping to play after starring in earlier rounds of the competition.
