Everton defender Phil Jagielka believes Apostolos Vellios' goal against Chelsea was one of few positives on Saturday.
The Toffees were beaten 3-1 by the Blues and were 2-0 down before half-time after goals from Daniel Sturridge and John Terry.
David Moyes' side have lost their last three games, against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, and are now 15th in the division.
Vellios, who signed from Greek club Iraklis in the summer, scored with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a second-half substitute at Stamford Bridge.
It was his second goal for the club after netting in the 3-1 win against Wigan at Goodison Park in September.
Jagielka, who has been an ever-present this season, was happy to see the striker add to his tally.
Breed confidence
He said: "There aren't that many positives but Tolis scoring will breed confidence with him and you know how it is with strikers and goals.
"That was a positive and Roy (Royston Drenthe) set him up so it's good for him to get a few minutes as well."
But the England international was rueing a poor start for his side's failings against Chelsea on Saturday.
He continued: "You can't give a team like Chelsea a 2-0 head start and hope to get anything out of the game.
"It was always going to be an uphill test after that. As soon as they were 2-0 up we had to go and chase the game and we got caught with a few too many players up the pitch and they picked us off."
