Schalke Coach Felix Magath Urges Manuel Neuer To Snub Bayern Munich Move

"Schalke coach Felix Magath has advised goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to remain with the Gelsenkirchen-based club and snub a big money move to Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old's current contract with Schalke runs until 2012 but he has refused to sign a new deal until before next summer.

With Bayern supposedly in the hunt for one of the best goalkeepers in the German Bundesliga at the moment, the Royal Blues may be forced to sell him to avoid the risk of losing him for free 12 months later.

Magath knows that Bayern's financial package is tempting for Neuer but urges him to show some integrity and has been quoted by PA as saying, "I think that he knows that a decision for Schalke would be something special in this football business. Only very few people have such a status and such a position in their own club.

"Manuel can develop even better and more sustainably with us because he can learn to take on more responsibility, and with that I don't mean responsibility for his and the team's performances, but responsibility for the entire club.
"He cannot do that in Munich. In Munich, he would just be an employee."
Magath, though, negated reports suggesting that Bayern have made a formal offer for the Germany international and explained to the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, "[Bayern's director of sport] Christian Nerlinger contacted me last year and I told him that Manuel would not be sold.
"As far as I was concerned, the issue had been dealt with. Since then, nobody from Bayern has been in touch with me.""
