Rafael Nadal Still Expected in Spain Davis Cup

Sport News 2012-Rafael Nadal has said it plans to withdraw from the Spanish Davis Cup team. Still very much needed energy, the world number two was expected to be willing to appear.

After Spain won the Davis Cup ushered in 2011 by defeating Argentina a few weeks ago, Nadal gave an indication that he would step down in 2012. Similar statements came out of the second best Spanish player David Ferrer.

If both players were properly backed up, the power of Spain in Davis Cup obviously a big decline. Hence the Spanish Davis Cup team captain new, Alex Corretja, hoping Nadal would still defend his country next year.

"My job as captain is to speak at all and also on the coaches. No one player is talking to me and said they would not play," said Corretja in USAToday.

"If a player needs time to rest, I can respect that, trying to keep providing the best for the team in every series," he continued.

Corretja plans to hold talks with Nadal and Ferrer related future in the Spanish Davis Cup team when they perform at the Australian Open beginning of 2012.

For the record, Nadal and Ferrer are the backbone of the Spanish Davis Cup team. Together they had three times Spanish champion in the last four years.
