Button hoping for dry running leading up to race

Jenson Button said he was keeping his fingers crossed for some dry spells over the grand prix weekend after Friday's free practice was run almost entirely in wet conditions.

Although there were limited windows of clear weather to run on intermediate and dry tyres, Button fears that a wet weekend will leave his team a very tricky decision concerning tyre choice.

"When it dries fast it is fine but if it's wet for a whole session and raining for a whole session it might be a different story," said Button. "For us on a drying circuit it was great conditions because you wear down the inter as the circuit dries out so it was perfect conditions and the car is working well.

"If it's raining the whole time in the race it's very difficult to know what to do with tyres. We've obviously used a set of inters today which are well worn and most people have a quite well worn set. But there are 44 laps to do on Sunday and if it's wet it's going to be tricky.

With the limited availability of wet tyres, Button said it will be difficult to judge when to go out if it's raining on Saturday morning.

"I think qualifying's going to be wet so we have to run on it and we'll probably be using all the sets as well so the race is going to be very tough to know what to do with tyres and how many laps you can use them for. We've got to hope that we get some dry time over the next two days otherwise we will run out of tyres."
