Neuer to snub Sir Alex and United

Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is prepared to snub a move to Manchester United in the summer.
While it is no secret that Neuer is one of the favourites to fill the vacant goalkeeping position at Old Trafford in the summer once Edwin van der Sar retires, the German international has revealed he is willing to forego a lucrative move because of his dreams to win a German Bundesliga title.

"I definitely want to win the Bundesliga once in my career," Neuer was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"I can go abroad twice a year, once for a summer holiday and once for a winter holiday, but whether I need to go abroad to play - some players say you do, but I see things differently."

His revelation now means United will have to up the chase on their other targets, including Atletico Madrid's David De Gea and Ajax's Maarten Stekenlenburg, or try their luck with Tomasz Kuszczak or Anders Lindegaard, who are currently on their books.

Neuer seems focused on attaining domestic silverware before furthering his career abroad, and has set his sights on bringing joy the Schalke fans come the end of this season, with the club in the final of the DFB-Pokal and into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

"The priorities are always success and how happy you are, and you have got to think of yourself."
"I have won the [German] League Cup twice and I hope to add the DFB-Pokal in May."

His desire to stay in Germany is likely to put Bayern Munich on high alert.
Bayern may be having one of their worst season in recent history but with the quality of their squad, they are still generally regarded as the top side in German football.

Having regularly been linked to Neuer throughout the season, Bayern will be confident of bringing him to the Allianz Arena should he decided that Schalke will not be able to offer him the prospect of Bundesliga success.

Bayern fans had earlier voiced their disapproval on the club signing Neuer at the recent league encounter between both sides, although Neuer has since revealed he was not too affected by the disparaging remarks.

"I got a lot of correspondence afterwards, also from Bayern fans, who apologised for what happened."
"It was a strange situation and it would have been better had such a thing not happened."
"[The Bayern management] acted professionally and made it clear to me that it was just a minority protesting against me."

The Schalke captain was previously the understudy to Rene Adler in the German national team but following the latter's injury, Neuer was made first choice goalkeeper at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and has yet to relinquish his position in the team
