Germany finishing second at Euro 2012 would be a disappointment, says Özil

The Real Madrid playmaker has urged his team-mates to not let themselves down in Poland and Ukraine, but says he is confident that the Nationalelf can go all the way this time.

Mesut Özil has warned his Germany team-mates that anything less that first place in the upcoming European Championship would be a disappointing campaign.

Since Joachim Low took over the reins, the Germans have won widespread acclaim for their attacking, free-flowing football, but have failed to convert it into trophies.

However, Ozil is confident that his nation can better their previous performances in recent tournament finals.

"I have a good feeling," he told Bild. "Our goal is the title, otherwise we wouldn't compete. We are getting ready here, and are totally focused on the tournament.

"In 2008, Germany came second in the Euros, in the 2010 World Cup, we were bronze medalists. We have always failed just before the finish. It would be a disappointment to come second again.

"But I'm convinced that we can do it!"

The 23-year-old played a key role in Real Madrid's Pirmera Division victory, and Ozil went on to describe the recent campaign as his best ever.

"I have had the best season of my career. The feeling of bringing the championship title to Real Madrid was just awesome."

Germany continue their preparations for Euro 2012 with a friendly against Switzerland in Basel on Saturday at 18.00CET.
