End of season event: Bayern entertain the World Cup runners-up

Two days after the defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final, the Bayern camp is ready to move on and contemplate the future. On Tuesday evening, Germany's most successful club contest their last match of the season, a friendly against the Netherlands national team, which is also the official season closer for 2011/12.

“Obviously, it's a very special backstory and a very special match," commented Arjen Robben on the eve of the meeting between his club and his country. In an ironic twist of fate, Robben and his fellow Dutch stars take on Germany and their large contingent of FCB players just three weeks from now, when the nations contest a Euro 2012 group fixture in Kharkiv on 13 June.

The Dutch are already well into their preparations for the continental tournament. The men in orange completed two full workouts at their training camp in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Monday, and will travel to the Bavarian capital on Tuesday morning. Jupp Heynckes has summoned the Bayern squad to a final training session at the Säbener Strasse at the same time, before the end-of-season match kicks off at 8.30 pm CET at the Allianz Arena.

For six of the current Munich squad, the match will be a last outing in the famous red shirt. Prior to kick-off, the club will officially bid farewell to goalkeepers Jörg Butt and Rouven Sattelmaier, centre back Breno, midfielders Danijel Pranjic and Takashi Usami, and striker Ivica Olic.

It remains to be seen which of the two teams Robben will represent on the night. Coaches Heynckes and Bert van Marwijk will resolve the issue beforehand. There is also a reunion with Netherlands midfielder and former Bayern captain Mark van Bommel, who is returning to PSV Eindhoven after one and a half seasons with AC Milan.
